Official Government Page

What is CCB for Work Permit Holders?

Temporary residents on work permits can qualify for CCB, but not immediately. CRA generally requires 18 months of residence in Canada and a valid permit in the 19th month.

Do I Qualify?

  • You must meet the caregiver and tax-residency rules for CCB
  • You generally must have lived in Canada for the previous 18 months
  • You must hold a valid permit in the 19th month
  • Refugee claimants follow different rules and are not treated the same as work-permit holders

How Much Can I Get?

Once eligible, the amount is calculated using the ordinary CCB formula based on child ages and adjusted family net income.

How to Apply

Apply once the status and residence requirements are satisfied. CRA may request immigration-status documents and family details before approving payments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a post-graduation work permit qualify for CCB?

A PGWP can qualify if the broader temporary-resident rules are met, including the 18-month residence requirement and valid status in the 19th month.

What about LMIA-based work permits?

They can also qualify under the same temporary-resident framework if the residence and permit-validity conditions are satisfied.

Are refugee claimants eligible under the same rule?

No. Refugee claimants are not treated the same as temporary residents on work permits for this CCB rule.
