What is ODSP Application Timeline?

ODSP applications move through two different stages: financial eligibility and disability adjudication. The total process is often measured in months, not days, which is why interim Ontario Works support is so common.

Do I Qualify?

  • You must be an Ontario resident age 18 or older
  • The disability must be expected to last at least one year and create substantial restrictions
  • Financial eligibility is reviewed separately from the disability package
  • Some prescribed classes can qualify without the standard full medical adjudication

How Much Can I Get?

Once approved, a single person can receive up to $1,408 per month, but while you wait the practical question is usually whether Ontario Works can bridge the gap.

How to Apply

Start the application through Ontario social assistance. Financial eligibility is reviewed first, then you complete the Disability Determination Package with your healthcare provider and submit it for adjudication.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does ODSP approval take?

A full application commonly takes three to six months. Financial eligibility can move faster, but the medical package and adjudication stage often determine the real timeline.

Can I get money while waiting for ODSP?

Yes. Many applicants receive Ontario Works while the ODSP disability package is being reviewed.

Can I skip the disability determination?

Some applicants qualify through prescribed classes, but most people still need the standard medical package and adjudication process.
